Tomatoes Weather the Drought

Posted on September 3rd, 2024 by Ron Meyer

We continue to be extremely dry at the farm, with very little rain in August and so far in September. Somehow the tomatoes are still producing and ripening fast, with just minimal irrigation. We still have red raspberries as well, though the supply is dwindling for lack of rain. Some other crops are doing poorly, too, like the herbs and sunflowers, which don’t have irrigation lines.

Fortunately there are still crops holding their own, thanks to drip irrigation. Other produce on the farm stand this week: arugula, beets, garlic, a small amount of green beans and romaine, kale, and sweet peppers. Also our own fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, and strawberry, blueberry and raspberry jam. Plus local honey from Mullet Apiaries.
