The veggie-type of fruit that is. On the farm, we consider anything that came from a pollinated flower a fruit, but they're probably what you would think of as summer vegetables. Most fruits take a long time, and like warm weather, to mature, including tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, winter squash, peppers, beans and even snap peas!
Though we've been lucky to enjoy some fruit-veggies already, this is the time of year where more of them are really thriving, so get ready for lots of zucchini, cucumbers, + more tomatoes, (all available for boxes this week) and soon-- peppers!
We're just trying to keep up with it all this time of year. Harvest lists are long for us, and the first of our storage crops-- garlic-- is now mature and ready for harvest and processing. The first step is curing, and the crew brought in about 2/3 of it last week, which is now slowly drying out in our propagation house, under shade cloth. In 2-3 weeks, it will be dry enough for us to start snipping the stems off and eating and selling delicious garlic bulbs. We look forward to lots of garlic in shares the rest of the season. One more thing to do now that we'll be glad we did later!
Better get back out there,
Sincerely, your (hot and sweaty) farmers,
Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
