We are so excited to bring you the first share of our fall CSA season. This season will be full of roots and greens, along with some winter squash and hardy herbs. This week we've got some bonus holdovers (cherry tomatoes) from summer available to swap or add, thanks to the warm fall season we've been having. Also just a heads up, it's looking like we have some late season broccolini for this week but we won't know until we can pick it Tuesday morning. As long as it looks good we'll add it to the list Tuesday once we have a solid inventory and send you an email to let you know.
We also want to let you know that we'd love to see you at Fill Your Pantry at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds from 11-3pm on November 9th. We're busy harvesting all our fall crops over the next weeks for our biggest market of the year. I recommend visiting the market's website and signing up for notifications so that you remember to preorder any of your favorites. Online pre-orders open next Monday and I don't want you to miss out!
This week we've got delicious spaghetti squashes available for shares. Spaghetti Squash is the most unique winter squash with its stringy texture, and my favorite way to eat it is actually not as a spaghetti with red sauce substitute, but in a soup or as a creamy side. Spaghetti Squash is much more watery than your average noodle, and I think adding a watery tomato sauce doesn't do much for it. If this sounds like you, too, I'd recommend you try a creamed spaghetti squash dish, or this delicious Kale, Sausage and Spaghetti Squash Soup.
We've also got my favorite greens available this week, Baby Bok Choy and Siberian Kale. Both of these add fabulous freshness to your weekly meals. My friend just let me know that Baby Bok Choy is also great eaten raw, so I want to offer you a new Choy concept this week- a Baby Bok Salad.
For roots this week we have everyone's favorites, Potatoes and Carrots. We're sending out our first of our Ama Rosa Fingerling Potatoes this week, which are absolutely great for roasting.
For flavor, we have cilantro (a surprisingly cold tolerant herb) and garlic for you.
Happy fall food-ing,
Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
