Similar to normal life, vegetable and animal farming can feel like an exaggerated roller coaster of good and bad. One day you’re reveling at how nice the lettuce is coming out of the field, but in the same breath you know that you have some cabbage family crops that got flooded from a leaking drip line struggling to recover. It all happens simultaneously, the good with the bad, and sometimes the horrible. This week, I was listening to country music while I was out moving sheep and picking chicken eggs and a song came on with the line to “be where your boots are”. It hit home with me. A reminder that when I’m hanging with the chickens, I should focus on that experience, not be worrying about my cabbage. For me, it helps to compartmentalize each farm item and just work off a list, enjoying each project as I (and our crew) come to them.
Last week your lettuce mix came in regular produce bags because we ran out of the zip tops, but it’ll be zip tops again this week! Happy 4th! And don’t forget to return your box, let us know if you’re missing anything, or have any concerns or happy feedback to give.
