Farm Happenings for September 2, 2021

Posted on August 29th, 2021 by Michael Hoke

We sure are thankful to have made it through that heatwave! Let's hope we have some more dry days ahead of us. This week, we have a huge harvest of broccoli available. It has done really well and is bound to be super tasty! We have two sizes, large and XL. Our greenhouse has begun producing Japanese cucumbers again and they are awesome! They are really crunchy and sweet! Salsa Verde packs will be on as well. These will include tomatillos, serrano/jalapeno peppers and Spanish onion. Lots of potatoes to be had this week too! We'll be harvesting our first yellow-fleshed potatoes and we can't wait! The Agria variety is so fluffy and flavourful; you will definitely want to give these a try. Fennel and kohlrabi are back on this week! Red and green cabbage, as well as Napa will be on this week for the cabbage lovers. We will have cayenne and habanero peppers, as well as a few other hot pepper varieties in the list this week too! Lots of field sweet peppers will make their way onto the pick list. Another new crop this week is celeriac! We love this flavourful root vegetable and we're sure you will too! Speaking of roots, we have lots of seconds carrots available. Our second vegetable are just as tasty as our firsts, but they may be broken or look a little funny. Several of our staff are going back to school after this week, and we're sad to see them go, but we are excited to work with them again next summer.

From Great Lakes Farms, we'll have Bartlett pears, Paula Red and Zestar apples.

Thank you for all of your support,

Sarah
