Farm Happenings for June 18, 2024

Posted on June 14th, 2024 by Alex Smith

Hello All,

Our irrigation team sure has been busy this week. While it's tough to run back and forth setting up irrigation systems, our plants prefer that we control the water they receive rather than the rains. It also alleviates some weed and plant disease pressure across the farm.

This year, we have faced abnormal groundhog pressure in our veggies fields. We have been engaged in a crusade to destroy/expose their habitat as well as trapping active holes. The farm dogs play their part as well. Still, we will be thin on lettuces over the next few weeks as a result.

Kale tip:  in our house, fridge space is always at a premium. Rather than toss kale bunches in fridge, I just dunk them in cold water for a minute and then stand them up in a jar of water on the counter, just like a flower bouquet. That should keep the leaves crisp for a few days.

Enjoy the veggies!
