Farm Happenings for June 21, 2024

Posted on June 17th, 2024 by Alex Smith

Hello All,

Summer is upon us! We have a busy week of irrigation ahead. Myself, our crew leader Kelsey, and apprentices Shanti and Alex D, are working daily to keep our crops watered. This involves setting up our irrigation reels (think industrial garden sprinkler) and our drip lines that run under plastic beds. This time of year we rely heavily on water captured from surface runoff into our pond, as well as our supplementary well pump.

Pictured:  some baby bluebirds that hatched on the farm last week. We have several initiatives around the farm to facilitate native species. One of my favorites, is our extensive bluebird trail. We have over 50 boxes around the farm that serve as ideal habitat for these beautiful, but threatened creatures.

Happy belated Father's day to all of the dads out there!

Alex
