Hello all,
TGIF! This has been a hot, challenging week. Our crew has stood tall through some unseasonably warm, dry weather tackling jobs on the farm big and small.
We also had the special privilege to host Governor Josh Shapiro at the farm yesterday. He came to address the exciting anaerobic digester Farmer Matt is building on the farm. For those that don't know, sometime this summer, our new biogas system will begin converting our food waste and our neighbors dairy cow manure into electricity. That electricity will meet our farms needs, our neighbors farm, and as many as 30 area houses... all from waste!
Our "spring" brassica crop is finally producing. Brassicas are things like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages, and kales. We work hard for spring brassicas through insect pressure and heat pressure. Lot's of farmers only grow brassicas in the fall for that reason. But, in my house at least, we need more broccoli than that!
Have a great weekend and enjoy the veggies!
