Hello all,
It's hard to believe we are already at the end of July. The summer student crew is already over halfway done their stint here on the farm. An important part of the farm's mission is to empower and contribute to the education of the student workers. I often quip that farms offer the most fertile soil upon which to grow a human. It ain't the easiest summer job, but I'm firm in my belief that the disciplines and skills acquired on the farm are easily applicable to any career ambitions.
We had a great morale boost on Friday afternoon: we were delighted to see an incredible yield in the digging of our first few rows of potatoes. I try and monitor our root crops as they grow so I can manage them as needed, but the magic all happens underground. So, on digging day, you don't always know what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised to see one of the most impressive yields I have every witnessed. We were actually pressed to haul them all inside before the end of the day. We should have potatoes clear 'til the end of the year, but get some while they are fresh!
Have a great week and enjoy the veggies!
Alex
