Farm Happenings for August 27, 2024

Posted on August 23rd, 2024 by Alex Smith

Hey all,

Happy Autumn, I guess? Add unusually cool August nights to the weird weather bingo card of 2024. Our job on the farm is to play the hand we are dealt weather-wise. This weather isn't great for squash, zucchini, and cucumbers. But our greens and fall crops are plenty happy.

In more exciting news:  we started harvesting sweet potatoes yesterday. It looks like a strong crop so far. This is very early to harvest them but they are already plenty big. If we let them grow any longer, we would be giving out football sized tubers.

Pictured:  every few weeks, I take a picture of our veg fields from up on a pasture hill. It's a good vantage point to see the evolution of the ground over the course of the season. As a visual person, it helps me to populate my to-do list from up there as well.

Have a great weekend!

Alex

Please note that not all produce in your share has been washed, including leafy greens. We recommend you wash all produce prior to eating.
