Farm Happenings for August 30, 2024

Posted on August 26th, 2024 by Alex Smith

Hey All,

My apologies for the delayed delivery set up.

Tomatoes are hitting big now - lots of all of the varieties. Few things say "summer" to me as a fat slice of red tomato on a burger fresh off the grill. We've been doing a lot of those at the farmhouse lately. A nice crisp Romaine leaf, cheddar cheese, my wife's homemade ketchup, some french fried farm taters. Someone should write a song about it...

This is the final week for the summer student workers. Next week they head back to the classroom to resume their studies. Many of them will continue working here part time during the semester but the rest of the load will fall on the apprentices, the other full time staff, and myself. September is a busy month for us.

Last week, we dug the first half of the sweet potato crop. It was pretty early to do so but they had already sized up nicely.

Pictured:  Farmer Kelsey seeding cover crop. We will be doing a lot of this in the coming months.

Have a great week!

Alex
