Farm Happenings for September 24, 2024

Posted on September 20th, 2024 by Alex Smith

Happy Friday all,

We are still in high tomato season here on the farm, but our fall crops are starting to come in as well. With the equinox occurring on Sunday morning, the transition of the seasons is front of mind. We are gearing up for our fall projects, composting more, and continuing to put fields to "bed" for the offseason.

Please note a new offering for us, "Yummy Peppers." These are a lunchbox style of sweet pepper. They are super sweet and great for kids. As the style would suggest, they go well in lunch boxes. I like to eat them plain, but they pair nicely with all of the good pepper dips (hummus, ranch, etc). They are a hit with the picky eaters in my house.

I have also included Habanero peppers in the delivery this week. They are insanely spicy. They also happen to be small and orange like the Yummy Peppers. Please take care not to confuse them - that probably wouldn't go well in the lunch box. Habaneros are smaller, wrinkly and pale orange; whereas the Yummys are slightly bigger, glossy, smooth, and bright orange.

Finally, we still have some paste tomato bulk boxes available. These tomatoes are mostly red round tomatoes that have some surface imperfections. There is still plenty of good tomato on each to make sauce with. They will be delivered very ripe and ready to use, please be prepared to sauce 'em up within a few days.

Have a great weekend!

Alex
