Farm Happenings for October 22, 2024

Posted on October 18th, 2024 by Alex Smith

Happy Friday all,

It's been a frosty but very productive week on the farm. By the end of the day today, we will have planted about 22,000 cloves of garlic. Each of those should yield a large, healthy bulb to harvest next July. We've also pulled in about half of our fall carrot crop. Despite getting washed out by 5" of rain a week after germination, and getting a little neglected in a busy September, that carrot crop is producing lots of large, sweet carrots.

The apprentices have really stepped up this week despite braving the cold weather in the yurts. While the yurts got fresh insulation this spring, they still get quite cold once the wood stove fire goes out.

Have a great weekend,

Alex

Please note that not all produce in your share has been washed, including leafy greens. We recommend you wash all produce prior to eating.
