Happy Friday all,
The fall colors have been beautiful here on the farm. Coupled with comets, full moons, and migratory birds passing though it is a really fun time to live on a farm.
Our big missions this week have been pulling in root crops (turnips, radishes, carrots), putting fields into cover crop for the winter, pruning berry plants, and working on firewood. Our yurts are warmed by wood stoves so we go through a lot when the apprentices are here. The firewood we are using now was cut, split, and stacked last fall. The pieces we are working on now will be for winter 2025-26. A lot of the firewood we process here is from trees that fall around the farm. Right now we are burning a giant cherry tree that fell across my yard in January of 2023. We are also burning a few of the aspens that died by our pond.
Have a great weekend,
Alex
