Happy Monday all,
Yesterday, the whole farm crew gathered to celebrate the close of the apprentice season here on the College Farm. Ceara and Alex finished their apprenticeship last Friday. Emily and Shanti will be around for a few more weeks. It was bittersweet. They have all proven very valuable to the operation here and we have enjoyed working alongside them, but we are excited to see where their farming career takes them.
We still have lots of great broccoli and cauliflower coming in. We are enjoying the upside of those 12 days of rain back in late September. That rain put a hurting on the first waves a fall brassicas that were already flowering. But the younger ones that were still in the growth phase drank it up and are now producing beautifully.
Pictured: Student Farmer Patrick helping a sheep with her mani/pedi (hoof trimming). Last week we bid farewell to the sheep herd here on the College Farm. While we love having them around, we identified that they are more trouble than they are worth to the operation. They moved on to another pasture based farm in Perry County.
Have a great week,
Alex
