Hello Everyone,
While the rain this weekend added to our cabin fever feelings.. the plants sure loved it! We just put in a 150 roses last week, and managed to get the first Spring planted rounds of beets, carrots, little gems, fennel, broccoli, and more in the ground. Yay! ..and there were 5 flats of strawberries picked this weekend. Not very many in terms of the 280 or so of you signed up to get boxes... but it means we're on our way to seeing more berries in your boxes soon. This winter we hired Happy Girl Kitchen to start a batch of sauerkraut for us. We used to do this for the winter csa in house, but then we can't sell it at markets without it being processed in a commercial kitchen. The upshot? It's ready to be jarred up and Happy Girl says they may deliver it as early as this week... so look for that in your boxes maybe next week. Surprizingly, sauerkraut seems to be loved by most of the young kids I know. Our kids gobble it up and we have to put limits on how much they can have (lots of healthy probiotics... but also lots of salt). Anyways, if you haven't had sauerkraut in a long time or ever.. you might just give it a try.
Thank you those of you who've shared some recipes and photos of the delicious food you're making. We will work on sharing with everyone. Right now we're still just hanging in there. We are actively seeking a CSA Manager.. so if you know someone for whom that job would be perfect, pass it on. We need help!
