Update from your farmers

Welcome to your first weekly box for our "Pre-Season Delivery".  While it seems COVID19 has pushed the pause button on regular life, the plants and farm keep on keepin' on.  We are so sorry so many people who wanted to sign up for this delivery service were unable to. And super grateful and blessed that so many of you are excited to and value supporting us. We had a much greater response than we expected and had to halt additional sign ups out of concern we won't be able to feed everyone.

Reality check- most of the fields still look like this... It's early Spring, so most of the last plantings that we got in before the ground got too wet have all produced and are done.  Bunching greens are close to bolting, broccoli is just side shoots now... we've almost sold all the storage crops like winter squash too.  There's more coming, but it's gonna be awhile.  Picking our first radishes of the year for you all this week :)

Special Spring addition to the box- we're going to pick wild harvested nettles this week.  We don't cultivate them, they grow perennially along the waterways on the property.  Nettles are extremely nutritionally dense and in this time of everyone trying to stay healthy it seems especially pertinent.  Here's a link on all the amazing health benefits/nutritional value: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/stinging-nettle.

What can you do with them?  Make a tea and drink it, substitute them in any recipe for wilted spinach. Sautee and eat them wilted with butter.  Make Pesto. Add the to pasta.  Don't worry, if you don't want to try them you can swap them out. This site has lots of recipe suggestions: https://thethingswellmake.com/stinging-nettle-recipes-20-surprising-things-make-nettles/

They will be bunched in a bag in your box, once wilted or mashed, nettles don't stink, but in the meantime HANDLE WITH CARE!
