The scary overnight frosts and cold temperatures have passed and we are back in business. Asparagus is growing!
Because of the unseasonable temps, I haven/t seen any bees outside yet: important for Strawberries! We continued to transplant Tomatoes, Peppers, and Cucumbers in the high tunnels because we can protect them with row covers, an arduous task, but it works! Thank you Lauren, for going through and gently tapping the hundreds of Tomatoes, shaking the pollen for lack of bees.
We finally unwrapped the Cucumbers. Riley and Lauren trellised them on Friday. We grow a special variety among the Cukes that doesn't require cross pollination to bear fruit. Lo and behold the Baby Cucumbers! I looked up the dates in the Cucumber log book, and we are right on schedule. The first harvest in 2020 was June 4, and 2019 was June 6; I really like Cucumbers!
The menu this week is still light, but we'll fill up in just a matter of weeks. Wednesday, I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids at 12:00 noon and the Allen Street Farmers Market on the corner of Fairview and Michigan Avenue, 2:30 - 7:00. Thursday is Farm pick up. Saturday is the first Farmers Market in Grand Ledge at JC Park 9:00 - 1:00, and our Saturday CSA distribution will be at that market. I hope to see you soon!
Thank you,
