This week we start planning and planting for Winter Production!
Today we have 13:35 hours of daylight, and plant growth has just begun to slow down. In 11 weeks ( November 6 to be exact) we fall below 10 hours of daylight when most plant growth basically ends. The goal for successful Winter production is to have the whole crop spectrum at 75% or a little more mature so the plant can mature towards harvest through the low light period until the middle of March--early April.
We actually arrive above 10 hours about February 6, but it takes plant life awhile to restart in the February environment! With sixteen crops on the board, each with different maturity times, the nursery will get pretty interesting.
We are open for Fall/ Winter CSA sign up (September 5 through December 18). Auto renew is set for August 27-30, for the convenience of current Members. You may opt out of auto renew if you want to make a change.
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Farmers Market, located at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Fairview 2:30 - 6:30 after that. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday we are in Grand Ledge for The Market on the Grand, 9:00 - 1:00. Please review the attached Menu and let me know if I can help!
