Good morning!
When we bring in a new farm helper and review what and why we do the things we do to prepare for the coming winter solstice, we start with the question, "What is the greatest enemy of cultivated plant crops"? (The answer is WIND)! The response may be lack of water, below freezing temperatures, snow, etc., and all have their merit, and this week we've had all of the above!
The outdoor remaining harvests look pretty sad, so this week I will shorten up the menu to reflect protected indoor crops that I know I can count on. Daylight hours are at 9 hours and 20 minutes, so the maturity of Kale, a slow growing product is in doubt. I may add Spinach to the Saturday CSA distribution in order to compensate.
I am working with Harvie, my online CSA inventory manager on the auto-renew feature for the Winter/ Spring 16 week delivery schedule that begins on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. The last Winter/ Fall delivery is Saturday, December 18. I will remind everyone in the weeks to come.
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street indoor Farmers Market after that 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday I am in the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery for all deliveries, 11:00-12:00 noon. Also note that the Bakery will be open this Saturday for the decadent consumption that you may have missed last Saturday! Please see the attached menu for what we offer this week and let me know if I can help!
