I have always been a leader in the important field of Food Safety, going back over 10 years when I invited MSU Extension from their Jackson Office to conduct a farm audit and offer suggestions on how to upgrade and improve our practices. I do admit that during this post pandemic, I have softened some of our rigid requirements. Then just last week I became very ill with food poisoning for the first time in my life. so back to the rigid rules of handling food!
Meanwhile, a long time friend and great artisan cheese maker received a writ from MDARD to cease and desist his business. I learned further that they seized his inventory and padlocked his creamery doors! Without being technical, the violations were a violation of basic Food Handling Safety rules! I will spend the week looking for a new supplier and begin to catch up on unfilled Cheese Orders. I will update you next week! I apologize in advance; this one really threw me, and I still am not quite over my personal unwellness!
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot at 12:00 noon, and the Alllen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Saturday we are at the last Grand Ledge Farmers Market on River Street, 9:00-6:00. I will not be at the East Lansing Farmers Market in Valley Court on Sunday. Thank you for your continued support!
