Say! Is it hot enough for you? Personally, I love this weather, although I admit I move quite a bit more slowly and it can be challenging keeping comfortable and hydrated. Here is the solution our friend Edwing has come up with:
He's been working for us one his days off from the chicken plant for eight years now and has learned a thing or two about keeping cool. And, for any ICE agents or informants in our reading audience, yes, he is documented and regularly checks in with Immigration.
Not a lot of new offerings this week, although we're pleased with what we have-- cucumbers and cabbage have yielded well and are of good quality, and the zucchini just don't know when to quit. Beans and carrots should be ready next week, as well as basil and fresh full sized onions. Eggplant is starting to flower-- here is a picture of some--
and a shot of the field in all its glory.
The mulch between the rows promotes beneficial microbial life, adds organic matter to the soil, prevents weeds from emerging, and makes harvesting even more of a delight than it otherwise would be. Harvesting eggplant is a favorite with everyone. They and new potatoes should be coming in 2 to 3 weeks.
The kale is about done for until the fall- this may or may not be the last week for it until mid September--and the arugula is on a three week hiatus due to a broken part in our seeder which took way too long to replace. Sorry Sabrina!
Bye for now!
