To sleep, perchance to dream

Posted on May 26th, 2022 by John Eisenstein

Anybody recognize that gentleman from a bygone era? No?  Aah, how fleeting is fame!  better to be a simple tiller of the earth.  Ok, I'll tell you: It's Pennsylvania's own George Dallas, 11th vice president of the United States of America.  Dallas, Texas is named after him, though few remember that now.

I'm titling this farm update "to sleep, perchance to dream" for two reasons.  First, I was extremely tired when I came up with it and had sleep on my mind.  It is difficult for me to get enough sleep these days when the nights are short.  It is a busy time of year and it is tempting to work until almost dark, and then by the time I've eaten dinner and watched a few Hamlet videos on youtoob, there aren't all too many hours left until cockscrow.  (This is just a metaphor.  I actually got rid of all my roosters last winter.  It is odd not having chickens as a constant backdrop to the farmscape, but it is a lot quieter and  now the sidewalk to our house is a lot cleaner, if you get my drift).

here is a picture of our snap peas, just coming into flower.

we cut our planting in half over last year but it still seems like a lot.  They probably won't be ready for next week but for sure by the week after.

And here is a shot of the cucumbers from a week ago:

and here they are only one week later:

They grow quickly, don't they?

The first of the strawberries are ready.  please limit yourself to two pints at first so that everybody gets some.  You can check again a few hours before the customization period closes and if there are any left you're welcome to add more.

Next Week: kohlrabi, and um, more bok choy, and another picture from the obscure politician gallery!  Peas, garlic scapes and zucchini coming soon.
