This week's Vice- President of the week is Charles Curtis--- to my knowledge, the only U.S. Veep to have a significant portion of Native American ancestry and was an enrolled member of the Kaw Nation. English was his third language.
I was reminiscing about those halcyon days of youth long ago, and what should come to mind but a "horror" movie from the 1980's I watched with my friends called "Children of the Kale". Does anyone remember it? It explores the theme of the meaning of existence in a seemingly impersonal world through the vehicle of a convoluted plot in which the children of a kale farming community in Vermont go off into the seemingly endless fields of kale towering over their little heads, only to re-emerge as strident vegans. Or something like that.
New this week we have kohlrabi, garlic scapes, and parsley. Also some really fine bok choy, which isn't new but is unusually impressive this week. The second variety of strawberries is also ripening with good flavor. Again, please limit yourself to two pints until the morning before delivery, to ensure that everybody who wants them gets at least some. Next week peas will be in for sure, along with zucchini and possibly cabbage and a few cucumbers.
