Hello!
I stumbled-- almost literally-- upon this delightful fellow yesterday while walking through the woods on our farm. Sometimes it is easy to get so caught up work and other responsibilities that don't take the time to simply enjoy being alive on this planet, but it is always time well used, even without the turtle. But the turtle does make it better!
Kind of a different week, produce-wise. We're inbetween plantings on beans, although I may have some for Thursday, and eggplant are feeling very shy. Our newest cucumber planting was eaten by one or more groundhogs :(. On the bright side kale is starting, and we have some very nice bok choy coming on.
Also we've got some beets I'm calling "mostly golden with tops" The actual variety is called "3 root grex" and is supposed to have three distinct types in it, but I can only detect two, and about 70% of the beets are golden, not pink. The flavor is a bit milder and less earthy than red beets. The greens are edible too, though not without some holes and spots due to the ravages of summer. I was hoping to let the beets grow for another week or three, but the patch wasn't weeded adequately and they have to come out.
I'm also offering carrots. I had some trouble digging them and some of the ends are chopped off. Just thought I'd let you know.
