Hello! And welcome to the summer season. I had a great time taking July "off" and I am happy to say that this year I may-- no promises, but it's possible-- get through the season with (most) of my sanity intact. That being said we are suffering several setbacks on the production end of things. For starters, cucumber beetles have found the cucumbers and have marred the skins of the fruits. They still taste fine, but don't look so good. Don't be shocked.
We're also having trouble with groundhogs. We've trapped 14 this year already, but not in time to stop two from eating several weeks of lettuce (they left us few, but not many!) and this very morning I saw one busily munching away in the melon patch. This is especially annoying, because the dear little animals enjoy taking one or two bites out of every melon before they ripen until they have tasted them all. I don't take these things personally anymore but it is still disappointing.
On the bright side peppers look good and are just starting to come in in force. There are lots of tomatoes and basil, the okra is decent and we should have beans next week.
Don't those peppers look nice?
