Woohoo, it's carrot harvest time again.
We work hard to keep interesting, varied successions of crops coming out of the fields and into your boxes. This has been a most interesting season in many ways and it is all colored in pandemic unknown. This week I am excited to have beautiful orange carrots and yummy mixed beets coming your way. Plus we have started to harvest our field tomatoes. The field tomatoes may not be as consistently un-marred as the high tunnel tomatoes, but oh my, the flavor is out of this world. You may see our high tunnel tomatoes or our red or orange field tomatoes in your share, maybe even a nice mix of all of them.
Green Tomatoes - We have had some requests for green tomatoes and I am happy to have these as add-ons to your share.
We have also been busy harvesting our soft neck garlic and processing our hard neck variety of garlic. More effort and time goes into growing garlic than you may expect. I am excited to start offering this garlic to you starting this week.
Peppers - This season we are growing eight different varieties of peppers from purple bells to Anaheim roasting peppers. Last week we had some shishitos to share and we are looking at harvesting more and more peppers in the coming weeks.
Fruit Update - For those who have signed up for Fruit shares: We are close to starting! We partner with Ela Family Farms in Hotchkiss over on the Western Slope. While all of the fruit growing regions of Colorado took a beating with late frost, we have been assured that we will see fruit for 12 weeks starting with our CSA pick ups on August 3rd and 4th. Colorado fruit is well worth the wait. If you have a fruit share it will be noted on your CSA box label. We may have the fruit shares bagged separately from your Veggie shares so keep an eye out for your Fruit Share bags with your name on them at the pick up sites.
This week we have freshly milled Turkey Red flour ready for your home baking.
Stay safe out there and keep eating great food. We will do the same and keep growing it for you.
