View from the Tractor
Whew, this has been a hot and smoky week. While we are wilting a little bit from the heat and coughing from the smoke, the crops seem to be handling it quite well. Our summer fruiting crops like the peppers, eggplants and tomatoes are exploding right now. We have a bounty of heirloom tomatoes starting to roll out of the high tunnel. This week we started harvesting the first of our field tomatoes, so the wait for tomatoes is over! Next up will be our peppers. I am excited to soon start harvesting shishitos and purple bell peppers.
While it is hot as heck right now, we are deep into planting our fall crops. We have 4 different cauliflowers in the ground plus red and green cabbage. Today alone we planted over 3000 broccoli plants. After a summer of heat I am always looking forward to some cool weather and the amazing fall food.
Today we are saying goodbye and good luck to two of our team members. Carly and Blake have been a huge help on the farm with their energy, enthusiasm and hard work. We wish them the best as they head up to Steamboat to work on a ranch.
Stay cool and have an amazing week.
The fruit share this week.
I am very excited about the fruit this week. We are working wth Topp Fruits and Rancho Durazno to bring in this weeks peaches. These are both certified organic farms in and around Palisade. I started my farming journey partnering with Rancho Durazno in 2008 to get high quality food to the mountain communities.
This weeks Peaches will be Rising Star and Red Haven. We will be packing your fruit bags with some ready to eat peaches and some peaches that will rein over a few days. It is always nice to be able to take a big bite of summer sweetness right away.
Thank you for being a member of our farm.
