View from the Tractor
What a crazy week. Highs hovering around 100 degrees in the fields really stretches us. We have been starting before 7 every day to beat the heat. When the fires started, then came closer, I knew this was going to be a challenging week. We have been taking extra breaks and getting the staff out early as often as possible. We are starting to see some stress in the field as plants start to shut down at temps over 96 degrees. Fruit production slows down while ripening speed increases. I am really looking forward to the forecasted cooling and rain next week.
On the bright side, we have started to harvest the first of our peppers. We have some shishito peppers in the shares this week with more to come. We will also have a small amount of fairytale eggplants this week. These are two of my favorite grilling vegetables, so once the weather cools I will fire up the grill again.
Stay cool this week end and pray for rain.
With gratitude,

This week we are still in the peach flow. We are going to be packing 5# bags of peaches.

Dean from Nimbus Road Apiary manages the bees on our farm. Dean has hives all over the county and the heat has really minimized nectar production. Speaking to him this week he mentioned that the hives on our farm are his best performers. When we are out harvesting any of our summer crops, the bees are just everywhere. The honey we offer comes from the hives on our farm and gets bottled raw. Nothing better than some fresh honey drizzled over a grilled peach.
Thank you so much for being a member of the farm. We can't do it with out you.
