We are at Week 22...only 3 weeks left (including this one)! For those of you who won't continue your CSA shares into the winter, either because we don't deliver to your community in the off-season or you choose to discontinue your share for the winter, it's time to stock up on some items. If you eat meat, stock up on local beef, chicken, and pork that you know is raised humanely and on healthy pasture. Maple syrup and honey are staples that you don't want to run out of. Squash and potatoes will last for a while in a cool location. Some produce freezes nicely to add to winter meals.
Also, consider buying holiday gifts from your local farmers. Maple syrup and honey are always appreciated. Or consider gifting a CSA share, whether for Winter CSA or for next year.
Winter/Spring CSA begins December 3. Sign up now before you forget! For those of you who auto-renewed, THANK YOU! Please tell your friends where they can get locally-produced food now that farmer's markets are closed for the season. Plus, you both receive free products when you share the love. Pittsburgh-area members: we have not given up on delivery to you, but we haven't yet found a suitable pickup location near Point Breeze/Squirrel Hill. If you have any ideas, we're all ears!
Turkeys: Our turkeys are from Moose Family Farm and are raised on pasture. No antibiotics or GMOs. No saline solution injected into the meat. They are moved to new ground daily and fed non-GMO grain. Just wholesome meat. Plus, they are delicious! Turkeys will be 20+ lbs. If you would like a 25+ lb. turkey, the farm is offering a price break. Just let me know if you would like to reserve a larger bird. When you order, you will be charged a $50.00 deposit. The remainder will be billed the week of delivery (November 17-18).

Farm News
With the cooler weather, much of our produce has slowed wwwaaayyy down in growth. But it's time to plant garlic for harvest next summer:
Glacial Till Farm
The garlic is going in the ground! Garlic is the last crop we plant as we transition into winter harvest and infrastructure improvement projects.
Spur Hollow Farm
We planted the first half of our garlic last week! Looking forward to one more bed worth of planting, but with how warm it has been we are waiting to plant the rest until the second week of November.
Now that the weather has turned cooler, the trees are just gorgeous. I hope you have had a chance to get out and enjoy the beauty of fall!
On behalf of your NWPA Growers farmers,
Amy Philson
