New in your share this week: our favorite Japanese salad turnips, cherry tomatoes from our friends at Long Wind Farm, crisp Macoun apples from Champlain Orchards, sweet potatoes from Burnt Rock Farm, and a fresh batch of shiitake mushrooms!
Mid-May is such a beautiful time on the farm - the trees are in bloom and are beginning to leaf out, everything is becoming so green, and the temperatures are finally warm enough to put our energy towards planting crops in the fields! Thousands of baby plants went in the ground this past week - ginger (pictured above), tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, scallions, cabbage, lettuce, spinach, bok choy, and more! Ben has also been busy direct seeding the many, many beds of carrots, beets, cilantro, dill, arugula, and green beans.
We're eager for the asparagus to start popping up. This year it's a little later than usual because we put a thick mulch over the whole asparagus patch to keep down the weeds. Now we have to wait patiently for the soil to warm up under the mulch. We're hopeful for next week!
