Rising Waters

Posted on July 16th, 2024 by Danielle *Allen

We are so sad about the damage that people, farms, and crops have suffered with the latest storms. It is so disheartening to know that we will likely continue to see this type of weather and that our resilience is being tested. The picture above is the swollen and muddy Connecticut River at flood stage on the eastern edge of our farm. Our vegetable fields are on terraces high above flood levels. We are so so fortunate to farm on this land that is high and dry.

But our friends at the Intervale in Burlington and Joe's Brook Farm in St. Johnsbury experienced devastating loss of crops and infrastructure last Thursday. There is a little solace in knowing that the act of growing food nourishes us without fail. And there is almost always time for another chance. We will do all we can for each other, what matters is that we show up for each other and keep trying. There’s so much letting go required in this life, what remains is love and care.
