Vibrant Awakenings at Spoon Full

Posted on April 24th, 2019 by Mericos Rhodes

Dear Spoon Full Farm Family,

Every place on this earth is different from every other. Yes, Spoon Full Farm is very different from Seattle (dry, sunny, colder, hotter), but it's also different from the nearest agricultural valleys to our north and south (Wenatchee and Yakima). The main difference is that it's windy. The wind rips. That's why you see hayfields throughout Kittitas County, instead of orchards (like in Wenatchee and Yakima). We have an orchard growing, but it's not easy. Our windbreak trees are growing slow.

The reality of Spoon Full (and nearly all of Washington, east of the Cascades) is that it's basically a desert. We get 1/4 of the precipitation of Seattle. Right now is when that fact is least apparent: the hills around us glow green in the dawn, the trees begin to sprout green leaves, and the wildflowers profusely bloom. There is no modesty involved. The world says, "We don't always get to be pretty, so we may as well be outrageously beautiful, while we can!"

It's a good attitude. A good time. May your days be filled with such delicious, plentiful beauty.

Love,

Spoon Full Farmers
