3 Summer Shares Left!

Posted on September 21st, 2024 by Ashley Thompson

Our summer csa program is coming to an end in just a few weeks, with Thursday, October 10th being our last pick up.  If you signed up for a fall share, you've got 6 more shares following that date.  If you aren't sure what you signed up for, you can check your scheduled deliveries here.

This week we've got another sweet spot share, where we have the last of summer crops as well as some beautiful fall foods for you.  We have more cherry tomatoes for you (we're about to start removing these plants next week so we're sending them your way one more time before we do), and poblanos.  We've had a fairly disappointing pepper year on the farm this season, which is why we haven't been sending you more of our lovely sweet italian peppers.  We just haven't had enough ripe at once to share with our members. Our pepper plants all had a hard time getting going this year, which means now we've got great, healthy plants with fruit that is not quite ready yet.  We're hoping this warmer weather coming helps them out so they make it before it gets too cold!  Luckily the poblanos don't have to ripen so we're getting a last good flush of those right now.

We've also got super sweet, tender green cabbage that we grow only this time of year.  This nice medium sized cabbage will store fabulously in your fridge for weeks, so you can also save all or some of it for later if you want.  I love making these cabbage steaks in the fall, they're the perfect buttery, juicy side dish.

In addition we have a fan favorite back in season finally, fall spinach is here!  We know it's been a while since we've had this available, and we're so happy it's finally back.  This plant hates the heat so it can be hard to get it established in the late summer, but this year our crop looks really great.

Purple cauliflower is also available this week-- a special fall treat that we don't grow a lot of due to it's habit of taking up a lot of space, but we make sure to get a good planting in when the season is right!  My favorite way to eat cauliflower is roasted, so I have to share my favorite guide for perfectly crisp roasted cauli.

To round out boxes this week we have radishes (also finally back in their prime season), yellow onions, + bunched beets for you.

Happy cooking,

Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
