Customization- Did you know that for many years we offered no customization of your share each week? We were the first farm in KY to offer customizable shares. We hope that you find the customization an easy process. As you might imagine there are very few software providers that offer a tool that would work for a farm like ours. Over the years we've tried to adjust our farm plan to include more of the crops that you want and less of the abnormal crops.
The talented group of guys here at SHF help me evaluate what crops that we can offer you each week. Here's are the rough steps of what goes into customization for a share that arrives at your home Thursday afternoon.
- Saturday- Evaluate crops (sometimes 40 different ones) and estimate quantities
- Monday Morning- Harvest Crops for Tuesday shares- and estimate what we can harvest Wednesday for Thursday Shares
- Monday Mid Day- Send members an email with what we think we'll have for your shares Thursday
- Wed 6am- Look at the software system to tell us how much we need to harvest for the Thursday Shares
- Wed 7am- Harvest crops like kale, lettuces, greens- and others that need to be cooled down to 38-40 degrees
- Wed Mid Day- Harvest peppers, tomatoes, squash, zuchinni and other crops that only need to cool to 50 degrees
- Wed after lunch- Finish up harvest
- Wed afternoon- start packing shares.
- Wed night dbl check that coolers are cooling correclty
- Thurs 6am- Start loading delivery truck
- Thurs 8am- get stuck in traffic jam-
- Thurs Mid morning- engine explosion on Truck :) Ha- that beter not happen again!
- Thurs Afternoon- arrive to the farm and unload truck
- Farmer Ford high fives the drivers for making it back
- And a very similar pattern for shares that get delivered Tues, Thurs and Friday
