Week 7

Posted on June 23rd, 2023 by Ford Waterstrat

This picture represents a great example of a farming practice that nourishes instead of degrades the soil that raises food for you and your family. Here you see lush grasses between the rows of bell peppers. This field has a slight slope to it. Without the lush grass The soil would wash away anytime that it rains-- and this past week we've had a lot of rain and we would have lost a lot of soil. Many farmers spray this area with weed killer to prevent anything from growing. In the short term- the practice of spraying weed killer is much more efficient and cheaper for the farmer to produce a healthy crop. It is an added expense for us to purchase the seed, grow the grass, and mow the grass- but we know that you you value healthier farming practices. You and I both are experienced in the dance of sustainability and cost savings. Thank you for your support-

On crop notes-

  • We've had a great broccoli harvest so far and hope that you are enjoying it! C
  • Green beans and cucumbers are 1-2 weeks away
  • Squash and Zucchini should be available from now until late September
  • We should be able to keep you full of tomatoes for a long time- We're still several weeks away from red slicer tomatoes-
  • Bell Peppers and other types of sweet pepper should be ready mid July
  • Watermelons and cantaloupe are growing well- but we don't anticipate those being ready for a long time
  • Red "new potatoes" are looking good-
  • Gosh- there are so many vegetables coming in I can't keep them straight!

Thanks for your support!
