Winter Shares and a little trivia

Posted on September 3rd, 2018 by Ford Waterstrat

How about this picture of Finley learning to drive. If you watch our FB videos- you've seen him driving the trucks and tractors.

After this weeks we only have 2 deliveries left. Some of you might be excited to have a break from the weekly pressure to cook with your custom box. And others might bummed that our CSA Delivery is only 20 weeks long. How did we arrive at a 20 week CSA? That's an interesting question.

When we first started our CSA Farm Shares we modeled other farms in the area. They were doing 22 weeks, so we were going to do 22 weeks. This was before we had kids, but while I was teaching full time. After we had Finley, my wife asked me to cut it down to 20 weeks. Teaching, farming, and raising a family was pretty tough, especially when work was 1 hour away and my wife was a professor at EKU.

It may have been that next year we scaled back to 16 weeks, but increased our CSA membership. Then the next year or so we had twins, we suffered a serious house fire, we lost my mother in law, and a few other challenges. 3 Years ago ffter 11.5 years of teaching, I made the leap to full time farming and jumped back to a 20 week CSA.

In years past we've always offered monthly winter shares of fresh produce, but were not going to this year. We've purchased more farm land and are eager to make some pretty big improvements to it to better prepare for the 2019 season.

We do anticipate creating Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday shares for you to enjoy.
