Produce update

Blackberries will be ending here in the next week or two and we will be rolling right into melon harvest. This season we may have over done the melons, so be prepared for plenty of that to come, both watermelon and cantaloupe. Melons are a bit difficult to get the harvest timing right on because they never all ripen at the same time, and every melon variety has a different way of telling you when it is at peak delicious. We always guarantee the melons, so if you get one that you’re not happy with, just let us know and we will get that refunded to you. I know that’s not really ideal, because nothing is worse than wanting to enjoy a delicious melon and sitting down to flavorless blob of thickened water.

It is the middle of July, so many of you may be wondering about sweet corn. Our first planting of sweet corn is quite poor due to rotting seed in the spring with the relentless rain. I am planning to stock for sale some sweet corn in the farm store Thursday for you local pickup folks, but the yields are such that I wasn’t comfortable getting an accurate inventory for the boxes. Future sweet corn is coming along well, so we will have it in larger quantities in a couple weeks. It’s tempting to blabber on here and tell you all the status of every crop on the farm, but I will just close by saying most crops are doing quite well and a bountiful summer remains for the picking.
