Fall is around the corner and definitely the best time for brassica family of vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kohlrabi, kale, etc.)! While the summer crops are slowing down in general, we still have lots of sweet peppers, romas, and salad tomatoes available this week. New this week from our local partners are McIntosh apples from Great Lakes Farms and blackberries from Bluegroves Farms. From Pfenning's we have organic apples from Quebec, and from Ontario: organic mushrooms, delicata squash and sweet corn (quite possibly the last of the season!). From further away organic celery, avocados, bananas, and lemons are available.
On the farm, the onset of cooler weather marks a phase of transition: in addition to the wind-down of the heat-loving crops, we are starting to turn over beds in the greenhouse and hoop houses in preparation for the winter growing season. Also this week we're very happy to welcome Josh back to the crew after a long summer trip to Europe!
Many thanks as always.
