Since I typically try to post some pretty pictures I decided to do a problematic one this time. As you can see I am having trouble getting beets to grow to a harvestable size this year, not sure what the problem is. We are usually harvesting by mid to late December and these are from my first planting, not all are this small but I would have to say 80% are. I am taking some soil and tissue samples for LSU to test for me and hopefully that answers some questions. We have some chilly weather headed this way, we will be doing freeze protection to the max for a forecasted 25 degrees. We knew it was coming eventually so we will be prepared to try and keep as much as we can looking good. Bundle up and stay safe on those wintery roads!

About the farm
Covey Rise Farms is located in Husser, LA just north of New Orleans in central Tangipahoa Parish and is part of the Covey Rise Sportsman's Retreat. The farm started growing vegetables on 10 acres in 2009 and has expanded to over 60 acres at present. The farm not only grows multiple varieties of over 30 types of vegetables, but in recent years has added fruit trees and flowers. Our produce is enjoyed at various types of restaurants in New Orleans and surrounding areas, from the finest restaurants to quaint neighborhood cafes and everything in between and by our local produce/CSA members.
