In the farming industry in South Louisiana, a forecast that looks like this weeks is something you never wanna see, but it is part of farming that we can not control. We will be draining everything, protecting as many of the exposed pipes that we can, covering what plots we can, winterizing all trucks, tractors, and equipment, picking as much as we can before 19 degrees gets here, and also praying we make it out with some crops! One good thing for the crops is that it is forecasted to rain, which should freeze the plants and basically insulate them so hopefully they don't get down to the into the teens temperatures. We will do our best and let everyone know how we turn out. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope you all stay safe and warm for the holidays, thank you all for supporting the farm.

About the farm
Covey Rise Farms is located in Husser, LA just north of New Orleans in central Tangipahoa Parish and is part of the Covey Rise Sportsman's Retreat. The farm started growing vegetables on 10 acres in 2009 and has expanded to over 60 acres at present. The farm not only grows multiple varieties of over 30 types of vegetables, but in recent years has added fruit trees and flowers. Our produce is enjoyed at various types of restaurants in New Orleans and surrounding areas, from the finest restaurants to quaint neighborhood cafes and everything in between and by our local produce/CSA members.
