Farm Happenings for October 12, 2023

Posted on October 9th, 2023 by Grady Seale

It sure did cool off for us at the farm, When I got here this morning it was 45 degrees and crisp! It is exactly what we needed for these fall crops. We are supposed to be getting our strawberry plants in this week so we are getting our sprinklers lined up and hoops ready for if we have to cover them. You have to keep the bare root strawberry plants very wet, hence the sprinklers, or they will burn up and never produce. Then once they start to bloom, we will have to cover them on any mornings that we may get frost, mainly to protect the blooms as the plants can handle to cold. It a good bit of work for sure, but very rewarding to see and eat once they are producing! Fall tomatoes are so very close, I am hoping by next week we will be able to offer them, along with some other new varieties! Enjoy this weather while it lasts.
