A few days of relief after the arctic blast are certainly welcome! After a brief stall in new growth because we couldn't irrigate the crops, everything is back on track. Because I work outside a lot, I can dress and prepare for the dead of winter. As a chemical free grower, I welcome the deep freeze because it winter-kills a lot of harmful insects that could cause a lot of damage.
As the saying goes, a watched pot never boils. Well, a watched bed of Baby Lettuce Mix doesn't seem to grow! I can't help watching; the sunny forecast for the next week tells me about 2 more weeks.I ask patience: we'll have a bigger selection of fresh greens toward the end of March...and did I mention the bed of overwintered Bok Choi under four feet of snow? It's ALIVE!!
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the parking lot behind Tannin Italian restaurant later from 4;30-5;30 after that for our Lansing Friends. I should be back at the Allen Street Market in a couple of weeks. The crops are growing and I get my first COVID-19 shot on Tuesday. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday I am in the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery in Grand Ledge, 11:00-12:00 noon. Please see the attached menu and let me know if I can help!
Thank you,
