Hello!
Going into January of the New Year, The winter weather had been relatively mild, and complacency tempted me a lot. Looking over my records and notes, we got our January goals met and then came February! If one is a four season grower, Horticultural Spring starts February 5, and one wants to prepare far before that date, and we did!
Alanna was here for Spring break this week and Lauren is still doing MSU classes online, so we were able to transplant 150 broccoli outside, prep the bed, erect the low tunnel hoops and cover the crop for the coming overnight temps in the midteens. That happened because we got the flats planted and did the dirty work in December and January!
The Menu is a little week this week, but we look to a gradual expansion with Baby Lettuce coming next week. I received my first vaccine dose last week, and if the crops keep developing, I am considering a return to the indoor Allen Street Market on March 17.
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the parking lot behind Tannin Italian Restaurant 4:30-5:30 after that for our Lansing Friends. Thursday is farm pick up, and Saturday I am in Grand Ledge behind Flour Child Bakery, 11:00-12:00 noon. I hope to see you soon!
Thank you,
