Good morning!
The shorter day lengths translate into big seasonal changes at Hillcrest Farms! Every week takes the new plants longer to grow. I factor that in as I plan on the colder weather fresh greens that compliment the outdoor Kales Squash, and storage crops like Potatoes And Onions. We are still transplanting from the Nursery to the unheated big hoops; the carry over growth allows me to do that in time for Winter!
Just a hint: with the upcoming inclement weather and the uncertainty around the Coovid -19 Delta variant, I am considering home delivery. Any comments? My online inventory manager Harvie has a support program that allows me to route certain deliveries.
Lastly, we will add a heavy layer of compost to our two newest mid sized hoops and render them fallow in preparation for a very early production planting to support our Spring menus. I anticipate a heavy demand for more fresh leafy greens as Spring is not conducive to outdoor growing.
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday, at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday, pick up in Grand Ledge is in the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery, 11:00-12:00 noon. Please see the attached menu and let me know if I can help. I hope to see you soon!
Thank you,
