Hello!
I don't remember a killing frost this late into the season. The air felt different this morning, and daybreak showed everything outside an icy white! If there are any tender plants out there, they are all done now!
We are naturally wearing down and season's end fatigue means shorter work days and the shortened daylight hours favor our bodies, if not our plants. As a four season grower, I am still very busy transplanting and converting the hoop houses to cold weather production. Somehow, growing in protected structures is invigorating and almost therapidic. It was 30 degrees when I stepped outside this morning, and 55 degrees in my planned work area! I have six - 90 ft. beds, and only 4 - 40 ft. beds to go! And yes, fresh new leafy greens are coming!
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot on Wednesday in Eaton Rapids at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Market on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Fairview 3:00 - 6:00 after that. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and Saturday I deliver all Grand Ledge pre-ordered requests in the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery, 11:00 - 12:00 noon. Please see the attached menu and let me know if I can help. I hope to see you soon! Note; our beekeeper, Maggie, just dropped off some new honey that she harvested from our hives last week, and we are back in business with our raw honey!
