It's back to work in the Hoop Houses and it sure feels good! I am hoping for a little sunshine today that will allow temps to rise to near 60 degrees and make the harvests a bit more enjoyable.
We plumbed a small area in the nursery and installed a modest propane heater that will keep the new plants to an average growing temperature of about 50 degrees, and set the artificial lighting to 12 hours as a supplement to our natural daylight duration of about 9 hours, 15 minutes!
We will transplant the lettuces and other greens into the unheated high tunnels in order to make room for the coming Spring crops. Next week we'll be seeding flats of the onion family. I overwintered a few onions for an early June crop; I have less than 300 pounds of Yellow Onions in storage!
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Indoor Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. Thursday afternoon is Farm pick up, and Saturday I will deliver orders and CSA Membership Share to the parking lot behind Flour Child Bakery, 11:00-12:00 noon. I hope to see you soon!
