Just a quick moment to confirm that we survived the latest heat wave and the drip irrigation is pulling the crops through: even the cool weather varieties! I will now invite a young person to introduce herself; Jessie just finished her fourth week here at Hillcrest Farms, and has made noticeable contributions already this summer.
"Hi, my name is Jessie M., and will graduate from Michigan State this December with a Bachelor of Science Degree. My major is Sustainable Organic Horticulture, and I am pleased to be an intern at Hillcrest Farms and observe the transition from the classroom to a farm and Farmer who actually practices my passion! Although I actively participate in growing all 46 crops on the farm, my main focus is on the two Tomato Houses that I am in charge of, and I have some very pleasant surprises for you!
I also assist with the Farmer Markets, so stop by and say hello! I look forward to continuing to grow Great Food with Mark for all of you this Summer!"
Thanks, Jessie, this week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:30. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up and scheduled home deliveries. Saturday we are at the Market on the Grand in Grand Ledge, 9:00-1:00 PM. It is also Yankee Doodle Weekend! Come by and say "Hi", we hope to see you soon!
