Farm Happenings for July 12, 2023

Posted on July 9th, 2023 by Mark Kastner
We will have Tomatoes and Peppers in very limited quantities at  the Markets this week, but not enough product to honor reservations. It is important to note that the summer Fruiting Crops are finally on their way, and we turn to preparations for the next season! Our summer intern, Jessie, (who is in charge of the Tomato Houses) is back from a short visit with family, and assures me an abundant supply of Tomatoes, Peppers, and other Summertime favorites are on their way!

Meanwhile, I am a little freed up to order Organic Seed Garlic for next year, Organic Strawberry Plants that we grow as an annual crop will arrive in about 4 weeks. I will overwinter them for a late May, chemical free harvest. We will seed flats of onions to overwinter for a delicious Early Spring Harvest this week, and after that, I'll plant a special Storage Carrot for mid winter production! Our great team is making this possible even as we transplant the last of the greens for your Autumn requests!

This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon, and the Allen Street Market after that, 3:00-6:30. Thursday afternoon is farm pick up and scheduled home deliveries. Saturday we are at the Market on the Grand in Grand Ledge, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM. I hope to see you soon! Thank you! Note the summer heat rendered the Baby Lettuce Mix quite bitter; the new crop is about 2 weeks out, and the limit on Blueberries is 2 quarts.
