This week we will transplant one last bed of Big Beef Tomatoes just in case Mother Nature grants us a late fall frost! The bed of about 70 plants is in the middle of the hoophouse and can withstand a light frost, but is taking up some valuable winter growing space, so what to do and when requires close attention and a little luck!
On a more reasonable note I'll be transplanting succession beds of Romaine, Baby Lettuce, Herbs and other Greens outside. The Brussels Sprouts are all in the ground, now, looking good, and will sweeten up after we get that kiss of a hard frost! That done, we'll be starting the Kale crop for winter production, and early Autumn Spinach to transplant outdoors.
This week I am at the Family Fare parking lot in Eaton Rapids on Wednesday at 12:00 noon and the Allen Street Farmers Market after that, 3:00-6:00. (With a little luck I may have Michigan Peaches at Allen Street!) Thursday afternoon is farm pick up, and pre scheduled home deliveries. Saturday we are in Grand Ledge for the Farmers Market on River Street, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM. Let me know if I can help; I hope to see you soon! Thank you!
